With most Wear OS apps developed assume you have your phone with you or in near proximity, is LTE really worth it? I know about the whole "OneNumber' concept from Verizon/Vodafone but given the extra cost of the LTE watch and the additional monthly service charge, is it worth the extra cost to have to still depend on the phone for apps?

There is a difference between the battery lives of both watch models. The Apple Watch GPS connect to your iPhone via Bluetooth and the GPS can be used to navigate around the region. The cellular model is designed to connect to the internet via LTE whenever you are not at home, thus it has shorter battery life.
My thought is, LTE is only worth it if you can find that use case that justifies regular (enough) usage, otherwise there’s endless stories on Reddit of people who pay for it and go months never using it once, because their phone IS with them all the time. So, like a lot of things in life, YMMV. 1.

Sep 25, 2017. #17. My killer LTE feature would be leaving my phone charging at home during mid day or the evening and just taking my apple watch to figure out some errands. However I do worry about the LTE standby time. I don't want to charge my apple watch twice a day, it would be ridiculous.
I have heard that the watch may possibly make the phone redundant in the future, but still to be seen then again the Apple watch ultra is pretty close. The novelty of answering your phone via watch isn't too bad, galaxy watch pro experience is very good. Only issue is that it's a massive battery drainer. I own a GW5pro and a GW5 both BT versions.

Not the watch5 pro just the regular watch 5 LTE. The deductible is $29 for screen repair but it's $99 if you get water damage or otherwise need a replacement device. And they don't guarantee you'll get the same color. It's either $3/mo or $49 for two years and where I live I have to pay sales tax on that so it's about $3.25/mo or $53.
